1983 ford f150 carb trouble

My Dad has a 1983 F150 with a straight 6 300 and the carb is dumping to much fuel in the motor and it smokes bad. The emission control stuff has been removed and he doesnt't know if this is affecting the carb. What kind of carb could he put on from an older truck that would be enough fuel for the engine without be affected by not having the smog equipment. He lives in Idaho where none of that stuff is required. Is there a model number from the 1970 s that I could look for that would bolt on and work without a lot of modification.

You could try a carb from a late 60s or early 70s Ford, with a 240 or 300 engine. They should adapt with a minimum amount of trouble.

We had simular problems with our 85 with a 300. Switched it to a late 70's carb for a 300. End of problem. Rod
