Is there a trick to removing this chrome piece? so I can sand this area.

Has to come off from the inside. There's about 5 nuts that hold it on, 1 on each of those fingers and a couple on the large vertical piece.

Take off the inner trim panel and then worm your way up behind the window regulator with either a ratching box wrench, a 1/4" drive ratchet, or just a plain wrench. I think the size of the nut is either 3/8 or 7/16.

Thanks Scott you saved me from damaging the piece. The car did not sell so I'm back to sanding.

Some of the reproductions have smaller studs on them and get installed with barrel nuts (spring loaded inserts) like the running pony and 289 emblem.

the best way is to remove the rear window this way you dont have to be houdini to get to them

Thanks Frank that's what I had to do. I could not get my hand under that inner panel. The window felt and weather seals need to be replaced anyway looks like I opened a can of worms.
