1963 galaxie

There are a few. I haven't seen one of them on here for over a year. He used to post a lot. A good friend had one when he was in High School. I helped him work on it a few times. He also had a 64 for a while. They were similar in a lot of respects. I had a 64 T-bird for many years. I've always been an FE engine fan. It was a toss up with me between the 63 1/2 fast back and the Mercury Marauder.

My brother had a 63 1/2 fastback. 390, 4 speed, highway gears. Bought it 3 years old from a traveling salesman. Big territory, all of WA and OR. Set up for passing on 2 lane highways. Sample cases in the trunk. Can’t tell you how many times I wished we had that back.

Quite a bit of action on those and FE’s over on the HAMB. Be worth a look for you.

Here’s a link to get you started.

Had one, first car I bought after coming back from Nam the first time. Later it turned into a 70 Boss 302!

The one with graphics is an R code lightweight that I got from a friend last year. He owned it since 1968. It does have 15 inch wheels but they are not original. The other is a 406 G code 4 speed also with 15 inch wheels.

So the 406CI G-CODE ENGINE was in a 63 1/2 FASTBACK BODY?

Those original KELSEY-HAYES 15" steel wheels are hard to come by and $$$.

Yes. The fastback and 427 both came out mid year. From what I have read, they still had about a two week supply of the 406 engines, so 136 of them made it into fastbacks, some B code and some G code. Of course the square back cars got most of the 406 engines.
I would like to find original wheels, but as you say, not easy and expensive.

Yeah, it is unusual.

Have you had it appraised?

Hubcap fitted to the High Performance 1963 and 1964 Fords with 15" wheels.
The basic design is the 1956 Mercury, but as you can see, the Mercury Head has been left blank.
This Hubcap with the three attachments points is only correct for these Hi-Po Fords.

R code lightweight engine bay

...hold the presses ... everybody out of the pool ...

You are telling me that in addition to the 1963 1/2 G-CODE 406 you have you also have a 1963 1/2 R-CODE LIGHTWEIGHT?

Yes. In post #6 the lightweight is the one with the graphics. It was owned and raced by Augusta Motor Sales (Ford dealer in Staunton Va.) from April 63 to April 64. It was sold to a private individual who used it as a daily driver for one year. My friend owned it for 57 years and sold it to me a year ago. He raced it in the late 60's and 70's. As you would expect, the original engine is long gone. It now has a 427 side oiler. The car has 24000 miles, mostly because it was a driver for one year.

2nd TOUR?

Were you a lifer?

Yup, almost 30 years. Started as an E-1 and retired as a CWO4. Nam X2, Libya and the Persian Gulf. 18 years of sea duty, 8 long deployments and managed to come out of it all (shot at twice, never hit) with no serious medical issues despite my best efforts to push the limits when I was young and bullet proof.....
