1962 Ford F-100 rear end question

I am trying to figure out if I can directly swap a Ford 9" rear end with what I think was a Spicer rear end of the same year? I have a 1962 Ford unibody pickup, and I want to remove the 9" and install the other design rear end. I know it will fit, my question is if it is a direct swap or not? Will the driveshaft work, U joint, shocks? Or are those parts different between the two rear ends used?

Thank you!

Best thing to do is, measure, cause there are sure to be differences in U joints between std 3 spd, 4 spd, or auto, and engine size and wheel base.

Yes, that is all true. I will just measure them once I get the other rear end. I figured it was not an easy "yes or no" amswer ;)

The axle swap should be a bolt in and go, I have swapped the pop out axles from about 62 back to 47 and there was very little difference in the overall width, and the spring mounts were right, make sure you are getting an axle from a stepside and by all means measure, someone else may have already done some changes in the previouse life of te vehicles.

type "High Q Ties" in your search box, it will take you to a site with a lot of Ford 9" info and other ford rear end info

Ford trucks had the narrow frame until 1972. Gear ratios got higher around 1965 and a 3.25 would be a good cruising ratio. I'm saving a '72 rear axle for a '63 unibody that I might buy that has a stock 3.89.

I might add the rear U-joint at least on a truck rear end was the same on 2 wheel drives from late 1954 (Spicer rear ends) up til at least 1977 (some say even later) Couldn't tell you if you're thinking of a car rear end.
