1961 meteor

This is the car that Big Shark is describing. Mercury downsized their big cars for 1961, and they were once again based on the Ford body. From 1957 to 1960, the big Mercury didn't share the same body. A 6 cylinder engine was offered on the big Mercury for the first time. The Meteor name appeared on the USA Mercury for the first time and were available as Meteor 600 and Meteor 800. The Monterey was the top model in the range. For 1962, the Meteor nameplate appeared again, but this time, it was based on the new Intermediate Body shared with the all new 1962 Ford Fairlane.

Here are some pictures of the Canadian Meteor which was unique to Canada. Canada had been using this Meteor name on their big Fords since 1949. These Meteors were sold in the Mercury Dealerships, even though that were based on the Fords. Meanwhile, the Ford Dealers got to sell the Monarch, a car that was based on the Mercury. This is the car that some Barners thought that Big Shark was referring to.

Merc Man, I have an original copy of the one you posted. I'am looking for someone with a 61 meteor that would appreciate it for their car. I don't want anything for it, just want it to go to a person that would display it with their car. I'm doing a 37 tudor and have no use for it.
