I think most of us have friends who own interesting stuff but don't have computers or get on the 'net. That's the case with my buddy Steve, who is selling his 1958 Ford B600 that had a NAPCO 4-wheel-drive conversion done when it was new. According to the previous owner, this was the snow plow/salt truck at the Detroit airport for many years. From the 15,656 miles showing on the odo, it probably rarely left the airport. It’s a V8 (don’t know which) with a manual transmission (ditto). It runs, drives and is very complete. The previous owner bought it at auction and had it shipped to Kentucky. He did some basic maintenance and mounted 6 new tires – and then only drove it a few miles before he got tired of the project. Steve says that the truck has a clear Kentucky title.
What would I do with it? It would turn into a vintage wrecker before you could say “Boo!”, but I don’t have the time or room for any more big projects right now. You could also probably make it into a car hauler or some type of wild fifth-wheel outfit. For that matter, you could haul it out to the farm and then go anywhere you darn well pleased. No matter what, the thing absolutely reeks of patina!
Price is pretty firm, but you’re welcome to make an offer if you like. Steve would also consider a trade, up or down, for a ’46-’48 Plymouth 4-door (he wants to make a vintage taxi with a V8 and AC). If you’re interested, give him a call at 606-928-5473. You can also reply to me, but I’d just have to call him and relay messages…
