1957 transmission paint

What color was the case of the T-86/R-10 3-speed overdrive painted in 1957? I have an overdrive I'm going to be cleaning up and installing in the future, and I'd like to make it original looking.

Thanks,

Dave

I worked on the line at Twin City Assembly starting in 1969. The standard transmissions were not painted then. The HD truck four speed came with the main case a red primer color, but the top and rear casting was bare aluminum.

Eastwood has a "cast iron" finish paint that would be as close as you can get, standard transmissions in the 50's were not painted.

That is similar to what we use in our shop for all the cast iron trannies. As stated above, I'm also fairly sure that Ford didnt paint the gearbox castings. Probably beginning in 1949-50 but for sure they didnt in the late 50's.

Nothing worse than a rust brown casting under the car.....where ALL your buddies and (worse yet) total strangers, staring at your poor transmission, will have various derogative comments to share.
