1957 312 Clutch Fan

I recently picked up a 1957 Mercury with a 312 in it. It has a factory original clutch fan on it.
I have a 57 Merc parts book and it lists it as an OEM part.
I have tried to find more info online for it but was unable to find any.
Does anyone have any info on these fans?
Were they used on other years? On Fords? Are they rare? Do they have any value?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Vincent

My '57 Bird has a clutch type fan which was on the car when I purchased it in 1973. I have the original FORD build sheet for my car that lists all of the equipment/accessories that originally came with the car.. The car is not AC equipped. There is no mention of a special fan assembly.
I do know that the fan works very well. The fan has seven large aluminum blades, as I recall I had to replace the clutch unit about twenty years ago.

these fans cane on turnpike cruisers.canadian turnpikes had a 312 as the base motor not 368.all had that fan.i remember seeing dozens.

So was it an option on models other than the Turnpike Cruisers? ( it came from a Montclair) Or was it just one of those things where some had it and some didn't.

I have someone interested in it but I am not sure what its worth.

Its the Water pump, pulley and fan.

it may have been an option on other mercurys but i never saw one.im sure some must have had it.it was standard on all t.c.

Bill.I never saw a fan clutch on a t-bird,but they weren't available with a/c whereas Fords and Mercs were.

I screwed fans on Fords for seven years at the plant in St. Paul. During the time I did that, there was no hard fast rules to what motor got what fan. It had to do with radiator size, and other options. If you had a build sheet for that car, there should be a letter in the box maked "Fan" which would tell the guy on the line what to screw on that one. I have seen cars in junk yards in the north with huge batteries and small radiators, and cars in the south with small batteries and huge radiators.

There is a heavy duty Hayden unit that fits well.........

It fits directly to the waterpump pulley flange and leaves out the standard T-bird 1 inch fan spacer.

I don't know if yourr Merc will tolerate the length - but the dimensions on my sketch are accurate.
