1956 Vikky fuel sender

Can anyone tell me the correct ohms for the fuel sender and gauge? My 56 Vicky has the original gauge but I don’t believe it has the correct sender.

Since those are King Seeley gauges they don’t operate on straight resistance. I don’t know I’ve ever seen an ohm reading for one that helped diagnose a problem. Except maybe an open or direct short. The 56’s are also unique in that they operated on a full 12 volts. Previous Fords were 6 volt, and in 57 they went back to a voltage drop device under the dash. Just what’s the problem? Not working, reading off?

Here’s an old write up that explains more.

As mentioned, the King Seeley fuel sensors don't use (variable) resistance in the sensor.
They use heat sensitive bi-metal switching contacts to regulate electrical flow thru the gauge.

The Ohm reading of the sensor coil doesn't change from full to empty. The rate of open/closed time on the switch contacts is what changes the indication of the dash gauge.

Does the fuel tank sensor look like this one?

I have the original gauge but it has an aftermarket sender. When I bought another aftermarket one to replace the non functioning one it was too small to fit in the tank, meaning the tank opening was too large. I may have an incorrect tank. The new one ohm'd out at 240 ohms and the gauge worked/ but didn't fit in the tank, the one that fits the tank is only 90 ohms and the gauge always reads full unless I disconnect the sending wire then it goes to empty. Did the 56 Vicky have a sender that clamped down with a ring or was it held down with 6 screws? Thanks!
