My carb needs replacing on my 1956 Ford Vicky. It has the orginal
272 y-block with the orginal 4 barrel carb. I was thinking about going
to a later model carb. But not sure which I should use. Maybe a AFB ?
I guess what ever I use I will have to add a Carb adapter ?

Sometime this winter I want to add a under the dash Air Condition unit.
This car has never had air, Any ideas or companys that I might call ?
Mostlikey I will buy the complete AC kit. And I am sure I will need
the name of a company that sells the brackets for the compressor
when adding a A C compressor to a Y-Block ?

Thinks for any advice you may offer.

If you change your carb, you also need to get a 57 or newer distributor, because the 55/56 dissy is a loadmatic, and will only work properly with the original carb. If you change the dist. you should also go to the 57 and newer intake manifold.

There is a guy in PA that does wonders with the old teapots. Mike Suter is his name. 215-757-3678

Summitt has adapters for your intake so it will mount the later bolt pattern carbs. And the distributors has to be changed. Rebuilt later distributors are available from NAPA and other parts stores.

as for the air i had a 55 merc wagon i used a vintage air system they have the brackets for the y block i used a complete replacement system ac/heat/defrost worked great

My 56 Vic has a early Mustang under dash AC. Bought a bracket kit from Don Hyde at Fordcraft, and the rest came from local AC suppliers. Works great. No one mentioned insulating the floor under carpeting. REALLY helped, made a big difference in the cooling inside the car..

In my opinion, unless you are very familiar with auto air conditioning, buy a complete system from one the suppliers. If they are with their salt, they will have matched all the components to work together. If you put it together from pieces it might work well, or it might not. I bought a compete air/heat/defrost set-up from vintage Air. It has been running on my car since 1995 and I haven't even had to add any freon.
