Hello: Is it possible to replace sunvisors on your own? If it is possible, how do you get them to stay on the arm? How do you get the old ones off the arms? Can I get away with some F-100, are the lenghts near the same or are they way to short to make it look good?, you can get a set of sunvisor for under a $100, minus the arm at NPD? I'd like to know if anyone did it and got it right, or how many started and, ended up taking it to a shop and what did they charge for the job?..............Thanks Dave

Dave, where are you located in Michigan? I had an upholstery guy over in Lansing redo them on my '56 Fairlane. The original hardboard was still usable, just needed them recovered. I think they are compression or friction fit onto the stems, they should slide on/off but it might take some effort if the old ones are stuck. I had them done along with some other work, not sure but I think he charged about $25 each.

I got some of those repop puffy/foam type blank visors from Mac's, didn't care for them though so didn't use them. I still have 'em if you're interested, will make you a deal on 'em if interested.

PM me if you want more info or some pics of mine.

I live in taylor mi. I bought these sunvisors they were suppose to be padded. Well they were 55 years old and all the padding disappeared, I've seen some hardboard on E-bay. I guess I can purchase them and wait till winter weather and have them done then..........Dave

If I remember right, the hardboard is cut from 1/16 inch tempered masonite. Usually, the hardboard and metal keeper that wraps around the arm is still good. Originally, the hardboard on the '55 visors were covered with cardboard similar to your cowl panels under the dash. Many decades of summer heat would cause the stitching that holds the cardboard together to rot, allowing the cardboard covering to fall off. I used the old cardboard as a pattern and made new cardboard coverings, then had them covered with vinyl and stitched the same way as the originals.
