1955 Ford Convertible

I have a '55 Convertible and the top would always go up, but had to be pushed almost halfway before going down it's own. I took out the seats and found the lower hose on the drivers side leaked and actually broke off when I moved it. So I bought a new set of hoses and installed them the same way. Now, the top goes down on it's own, but won't go up unless I lift it halfway. This is impossible unless I have someone with me. I've filled the reservoir, checked for leaks, and ran it throught three complete cycles thinking there might be some air pockets. Any ideas???

Kultulz, there is that type-A fluid again... I guess I am surprised to see that. I would have thought it would have used hydraulic oil. You know the clear stuff like used in hydraulic jacks.

I bet the system has air trapped in it.

Yes, you have a good point.

There is special hydraulic fluid for modern use and a bleeder tool.

I was waiting for the OP to use the diagnostic chart to find anything mechanically/electrically wrong first and then go from there.
