Here is my problem...I having oil gushing from the spin on type filter on my 272 engine...
I literally have oil gushing from from the oil canister....
I put on a spin on type setup when I bought the car a few years back but I have had the engine out of the car and now have forgotten exactly how the setup is installed.
It seams to me that the install goes like this.
#1....install the large plate gasket on the block.
#2....then lay the spin on plate against the gasket and then install the bolt to hold it, and torque to 25 ft lb.
#3...then install the filter to the spin on plate ....
AM I FORGETTING ANYTHING ???????
Why is the oil pouring out ????
All ideas are welcome.....thanks, John in CT

If you oil is coming out of between the plate and the block you need to replace the gasket and then re bend the plate so it has more tension when it is fixed to the block... Or buy another plate

On one of my builds, the gasket was blowing between the block and the plate. I went through two rubber gaskets, then found a fiber gasket. It held. If I remember correctly, to get a fiber gasket I bought an oil filter for the canister. The fiber gasket was in the box, but not offered alone. I also laid the plate on a flat surface upside down, placed a 1 5/16 (my largest) socket in the grove, and gave it three BIG whacks with my big hammer.

I do not cement the block gaskets in place but I do insure that the removed plate when sitting on a flat surface has the center hole at least 1/16" higher at the bottom surface than the surrounding outer surface. That will provide the required tension to the block gasket when the plate is fastened to the block.
