Hey guys, I'm having a struggle, bought a new radiator for my 55 ( someone had welded a 2x4" box in place of the original x member .I replaced the frame with a donor 56. Now replacing all the sheet metal (the u shaped) radiator support in place bolted it down installed radiator and looks as if the hood will smash the top.
Does anyone have any pictures of what it should look like assembled. If possible please give an under shot of crossmember, I have 2 mini coil springs, with 2 badly weathered rubber washers. Thanks in advance
troy

It does look like the hood will hit the radiator, but it wont. At least mine doesnt (1956 Customline six). Look at the pic attached.
Have you tested it with the hood on?

The two studs on the bottom of that U-shaped radiator support bracket sit down thru the holes in the crossmember bracket. If you have it assembled like that, the radiator should fit right. At the center of the bottom of the u-shaped support, there should be a thick rubber pad which will sit on top of the crossmember.
Install the springs, washers and castle nuts on the studs underneath the car to hold the support bracket down on the frame.

Cool, and Dave does the sheet metal bolt to the front of the u and the radiator towards the back ( 4 bolts)? Or does the radiator slide into the u groove? If possible could you attach a photo or 2?
thanks troy

The sheet metal bolts on the front side of the U bracket and the radiator bolts to the back side. You are missing the steel rod which bolts across the top of the U bracket.

So Rick the sheet metal attaches to the front of the U support and the radiator attaches to the backside of the U support. The radiator does not slide into the U support?

The radiator does not slide into the support. The rubber pad is about 3"X1"X1/4" from memory and has a little Spring clip which holds it in place.

I believe the radiator mounted on the backside of the U on V8 cars, and on the front side of the U on 6 cyl. cars because the engine was longer. At least it was that way on '52 and '53 Ford's.
