1953 Mercury. Need help decoding

Look what followed me home today. I have a new baby. Needs new floors etc. I need help figuring out the vin plate. can someone provide me insite or assitence.

The "ME" means it was built in the Metuchen, NJ car assembly plant.

ME = Metuchen (as the gentleman indicated)
68556 means it is the 58556 car at that assembly plant (numbers start at 10001)
M means it is the Mercury line

BG60E 38-351-23G-176
BG60E is the Body Type code (Six Passenger Sport Coupe)
38 is the Body Color code (Tahiti Tan over Mohawk Maroon Metallic)
351 is the Trim code (Brown and White check Broad cloth)
23G is the build date of the month (the 23rd of July. July is month “G”)
176 is the Rotation Number for the production day and it starts at 1 each day.
