1953 Ford

I have a '53 Crestline Sunliner that I bought in '73 for $125.00. Now in the process of rebuilding the Flathead and front suspension. Here she sits waiting…

1953s are great cars. They ride good, run smooth and handle well. The 52-54s aren't nearly as popular for some reason as the 49 thru 51s but they really are better cars with lots of improvements over the earlier models. Vic's convertible has lots of potential, good luck with it Vic.

Thanks Barry, I'm on the third restoration of the '53. As I said, I bought her in '73 and rebuilt the Flathead in '75. I lived on Long Island at the time and used the car as a daily driver up to '77. In '89 I drove her to the EFV8 National Meet in Greensborough, NC (I think it was Greensborough, CRS) and got 2nd place in the '49 - '53 Open Touring Class. In '90 I drove her to Charlotte, NC for the EFV8 National Meet and took home a 1st place in the same class. In '91 I drove her to Ellicott City, MD for the EFV8 Meet and in '92 my friend drove her from LI to Tampa, FL following me in our '39 CS. I've owned the '53 going on 38 years and have enjoyed just about every minute spent behind the wheel cruising. I'm looking forward to driving her again.:D Vic

Hey, I'm a 53 ford boy. got a 4-door I drove to Winona, MN in 07 and to concord NC this year and even went around the tract in it. She started missing in Nashville, TN, but made it home tho, no compression in No. 3 cylinder on right bank. Got to take a look this winter. Also have two convertibles, one an original with original seat covers, tinted glass and p/s. One more 4-door. Love them 53s. Charles

Tinker, thanks, I appreciate that. My dad traded his '49 Merc Convertible in '54 (when I was five years old) for a leftover '53 Mainline ForDor I6, 3 speed, options delete. I like my convertible much better.:D Vic

Thanks for all the encourgement about the 53 Fords. Looks like I have a prize that I didn't expect. To all a Merry Christmas.

These cars are still affordable for those that want to own a Ford Flathead V-8.

I was given this one for helping my aunt and other family menbers clean things up and get some stuff ready for his auction. Still working on a way to get it loaded and then decide what to do with it. Not enough left of the drive train to put it back stock without breaking the bank so I have alot to decide. I do have some NOS parts for the front end, but no spindles, hubs or drums. Rod

There are plenty '53s out there but never many for sale. They are a popular model year. There are also a lot of threads on the '53 so people are working on them. I know I am.
