1953 ford radiator on Mercury

I looked in the Hollander Interchange and they only show 1952-53
Mercury, no other radiator shown to fit.

I'll bet I could make it work.

I would wager the difference between a replacement aluminum Ford radiator and an original one is probably greater that the difference between an original Ford and an original Mercury.

Thank you for your answers.. Yes, I presume too I can adapt a replacement aluminium to my Monterey. I'm just wondering if somebody already did it...

My brother has a very nice original 53 merc radiator you could probably have for shipping and a song. We've had it since the 80's when we parted out a 53 merc 4 door. Tim

This could be your salvation or utterly useless given the effort, cost, and risk of shipping a radiator. Just another good reason to add your general location to your profile.

I have the original brass radiator. I would like to swap it with a aluminium one as they are usually better and it is cheaper than rebuilt mine. Thank you.

A friend of mine in the local V8 Club used a 52-53 Mercury radiator in a 51 Ford years ago. I have had a 49-53 Ford radiator next to a 52-53 Mercury radiator and all the critical areas looked compatible, the mounting flange bolt hole locations, inlets, outlets, height, etc. I think they can be swapped, but would hate to give you bad information. I would measure your original radiator and compare with the aluminum to be sure.

Personally I prefer to run an original copper / brass radiator, but I'm not keeping a flathead car going in Italy either.

Thank you. I took dimensions of aluminium that are for sale and seems to be the same. I'm going to try as I found a good price 3 rows.

I undestand the original would be better to view, but italian rebuilders are very expensive and the result is not worth the expense. In Milano we can reach 100F° very often in the summers.

DUH, Next time I will look at the location. Sorry . Anyone els out there need a very nice 53 merc radiator? Tim

Not to worry; the location wasn't there when you made that very generous offer. I hope someone takes you up on it before the radiator gets scrapped, as happened on a thread here earlier.

For anyone who might be interested, the aluminum radiator for the 49/51 Fords can be fitted to a 53 Mercury, you just need to work a little on the height.
