i have a 51 merk with disk braks up front drum rear. i have a duel master cylinder with the proper valves. i have a duel 7 inch booster the system is air free. i am using dot 5 my problem is i dont like the feel of the pedel the pedel is mounted on the floor. the car stops but i dont like the feal . i am told because the pedel is floor mounted its the nature of the beast.is there anything i can do to improve the feal

A few questions so you can get proper help:

- Specific model number of your master cylinder. Need details about bore diameters.
- Re, "don't like the feel"
- Soft, hard, to close to floor or?
- Brake shoes in back I assume. Are they adjusted correctly
- What are you using for the disk brake pads, organic (resin) or metallic (sintered) material?

Others here like DOT 5. I used it in my ‘40 years back and always found the brakes to feel soft and nebulous even with thorough bleeding. I use DOT 4 in everything I have now.

Personally, I would stay away from DOT-5. Not only for the reasons given above, but also because it's gonna be hard to get and expensive in the future. It doesn't play well with ABS brakes, so none of the manufacturers use it. It has become almost a "military only" item and you know what that means ($300 hammers).

I had one car ('68Corvette) I used it in, and found it to be satisfactory, but extremely hard to bleed. It's not worth the effort.

Put together a couple cars back when DOT-5 was the newest "best thing" to use; both cars had a "soft" feel to the pedal.

No problem with braking; but had to get used to it every time I drove the '33 after driving other cars and trucks all week.

Never used it again.

i have 5 fords with dot 5 reg brake systen. rock hard pedel over 20 years. wheel cyl like new. is there any one out there with a 51 merk with the floor mounted pedel that has a hard high pedel. there was a member 51 merk who passed like me he tried every thing but had the same problem . if you have a high dollar paint job & you get dot 3 spill or leak you will wish you used dot 5.dispite its install problems if your car sits for a long time its well worth it especely if you live in a area that has high huhenty
