This 1951 Mercury Coupe is an excellent candidate for restoration. The body has been commpletely redone with ALL METAL and is just beautiful. I've included closeup shots of the body work in the typical areas where Mercs rust out so that you can see how nice this work is.

BODY-- This is easily the best aspect of the car. As I mentioned above, the body work has all been completed on this car. The previous owner was an experienced body man and it shows in the work that has been done. The sheet metal has been painstakingly repaired with all metal and surfaced beautifully. Although it's only in primer, it already looks fantastic. I really can't say enough about the body work, it's just excellent all around. I'll let the pictures speak for me.

CHASSIS-- The previous owner's orignal plan was to remove the body and place it on a hot rod chassis, but once the body work was done he decided to sell. So, the car is still on it's ORIGINAL, STOCK FRAME. The frame has not been restored, so the undercarraige has the usual surface rust. However, the undercarraige is all very solid. The frame has no rust-through anywhere, and all the body mounts look to be nicely intact. When we got the car, one of the leaf springs had broken, so I replaced both leaf springs with BRAND NEW REPLACEMENTS. It appears that even before the restoration was started, this was still a very sturdy car.

ENGINE-- The engine and transmission is included; however the mechanicals will need to be rebuilt or replaced. The flathead engine is stuck - I removed the heads and one of the pistons shows considerable corrosion. I do have an available flathead block, heads, crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, etc. If you're interested in this engine after the sale we can negotiate for it.

INTERIOR-- The seat springs are there, as you can see in the photos, but the padding and covers are completely gone. The seats will need to be recovered. The inside door panels are missing. The inside window frames are there, as are a number of additional trim parts.

EXTRA PARTS-- As you can see from the photos, there are a good amount on trim parts including stainless, window frames, door handles, and so on.

I have many more pictures of the car than this site allows me to post, so if you're interested in the car and would like to see additional photos, please send me your email address and I'll be happy to send them to you. I can also answer any questions you have about the car. As a licensed Illinois dealer we are required to collect applicable sales tax from residents of the following states; AZ, CA, FL, HI, IL, IN, MA, MI and SC.

The 1949-1951 Mercury Coupes are getting increasingly difficult to find, especially in this condition. I have to stress again that the body on this car is just fantastic. If you're looking to restore a car to stock, this is a perfect candidate. If you're looking to make a custom, this is an amazingly straight body to start with.

This car is also for sale on eBay.
