1951 Ford clutch pitter-patter?

Hi Everyone,

When I depress the clutch pedal on my '51 Ford Victoria, I hear a pitter-patter directly related to the the RPM of the engine. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Thanks!

Is the clutch a bit jerky when releasing? VanPelts has a good write up on clutches...check it out. I've never heard "pitter patter" used to describe a car noise but the first thing that crossed my mind is a warp in the clutch disc but I haven't convinced myself that it's the right diagnosis.

I suppose a better description would be a ticking noise, with each revolution of the engine you can hear a tick. It's not jerky when releasing. Thanks for the reply!

Does it make that noise when the throw out bearing first makes contact with the disc or does the noise occur only when the clutch is fully depressed?

it makes the noise immediately when pressing the clutch, and does not stop until the clutch engages again.

On my '50 the starter ring gear was cockeyed, it hit on the block every time I stepped on the clutch, tapped it on evenly all the way around and tacked welded it in a few spots.
