1951 Ford 3-spd OD transmission question

Hey Gang I'm running a 1958 292 Y-block in my coupe. I want to run a traditional type trans. My question is will a 1951 3-spd OD Borg Warner trans work behind my Y? Didn't they use this type trans til 62?

It will work just fine, but if it has an elec od shift, and you're running 12 volts, you will want to do something with that.

Agree, they are great trannies so start looking for a 12 volt solenoid and a 12 volt relay. The governor and kick-down switch don't care about voltage. Bruce

Just don't plan on banging on it much,the later 292's used the T-85 O.D. units that are much stronger might be wise to look for one of those and sell the '51 unit to a shoebox guy.
