I am wanting to change my original steering gear box on my 1951 Ford F1, but still keep the original steering shaft / column.
Does anybody know where I can purchase a adapter to facilitate this manual steering gearbox swap? I am also open to steering gear box suggestions.

Thanks,

Ray:)

Some folks are installing a Toyota power steering gear box. To keep the stock column and wheel, cut the shaft and buy a shaft bushing and two shaft collars. Drill and tap the bushing so it can be screwed to the outer column, then screw the collars to the shaft to hold it at the correct height for the wheel. Grease it all well, and give the collars about .020 clearance. Then make a support to bolt the column to the floor.

Sir,

I have thought about the toyota steering gear box. But how do I bolt the gearbox to the frame. Mounting holes are totally different.

Thanks,

Ray

I put the toyota box in my 52 panel and really like it. I centered the sector shaft in the f1 frame hole then was able to mount the box using the heavy duty "V" bracket from midfifty designed for the 53-55 truck. Of the three f1 frame holes one lined up, I elongated the lower one and then drilled one new hole in the frame and bracket. Got the pitman arm and hoses from midfifty also. I used a steering shaft from a 40 ford and running the 40 wheel and a 56 truck column.
