1951 F1 3 Speed Synchronizer Assembly?

I have a 1951 F1, 239 Flathead V8, 3 Speed Light Duty Column Shift Transmission, all rebuilt.

Have been grinding going into 2nd gear; adjusting the linkage did not help. So I pulled the transmission out and took it apart. The bronze synchronizer rings have the proper clearance, so that isn't the problem. I wonder if I have the synchronizer hub and sleeve assembled correctly?

The hub center is flush to one end of the hub and recessed at the other end.

Per the attached photos, I have the extended end of the center hub flush to the front of the sleeve, and the recessed end to the back of the sleeve. Is this correct?

Yes, you have it correctly assembled in your photo.

If it’s crunching gears when you shift from first to second gear, either the synchronizer ring is worn (or a poorly mfr’d part) or the input shaft of the transmission is still spinning when you are making the shift. This can be from clutch adjustment, clutch dragging, or the pilot bearing dragging the input shaft while the engine is running.

Mac,

Thanks for getting back to me. I originally had it assembled backwards, which is probably why I was grinding.

Are you open for sales? I need a gasket set and your special shim washer.

Thanks.
