1950 Ford Speedometer

I have a 1950 Ford, have the speedometer out, the speedometer runs smoothly with a cordless drill. When it is attached to the cable the needle does a dance. I have lubricated the cable which appears to be in good condition. I think I need to clean the cable housing. I need advice as to how to accomplish this. Thank you in advance.

there is a little plugged hole right in front of where the cable screws on than can be pried open for a drop or two of 3-in-1 that oil might help....

How does the speedo gear in the trans look?

To cure the "dancing" of my 40 Ford speedometer I positioned the cable so
that it screwed straight into the speedometer with no bends for at least 4 to 6 inches. Still no dancing after 20 years.

Hi check to see if when you hook up the cable that it is not pushing up the inside of the speedometer. That could make the mag off set on the speed cup. Check to see if you can push the shift up in side the speedometer hook up.
