1950 Ford sedan seat too far forward

I’m late seeing this thread, if I remember Correctly you need to remove the bolts that hold the back of the seat on and insert the pins in first, then lean the back forward till the bolt will go back in. It’s been about 7 years since I had mine out but that’s what I remember.

Thanks Greg, your memory is spot on, that is exactly how I did it, and what difference.
I do not know how the previous owner drove the car how it was, I can drive the car now though I am still going to follow Joes example and set the whole seat back another two inches with adaptor plates. It should them be about right for comfortable long distance driving.

take a look from under neath had similar problems but while looking at something else found that the floor was double drilled and plated . There was a second set of holes waiting to be used about 1" to the rear of the set in use WHAT A DIFFERANCE with 1/2" spacer under the front and an 1" under the rear like you i am 6' and 120kg not big but no jockey

Thanks for sharing Joe B. The seat in my '38 is a bit close for me and I'll be using that idea to move it back a few inches.

Geoff, glad you got an answer and figured out your issue.

I feel your pain. I'm only 6'1" 200#, but with the seat all the way back, my knee was on the shift lever and steering wheel in my belly. I know the average guy was shorter in '50 and I knew I needed to fix the seat travel to suit me. This was my first alteration to the car. Does your car have the 1" high hardwood block under the front mount? It's there for a reason (seat tilt). Anyway, I rounded up some angle, hickory, and bolts, and made up a modified mount that moves the seat mount back 4" (3" would have been plenty). Also helps a lot when crawling around under the dash. Here are a few pics. It's solid as a rock. Original seat and I used the original seat mounting holes that go through the floor into the frame. Hardwood piece in front and angle iron in back. Edit: I added a couple photos. Hope this helps.

I know this post is a few years old but looks like it will do the trick!!! I had to reread a few time to get the pictures to line up with the text but finally made the connection with the angle only in the back not across the entire mount...
