1950 Ford Concern

We just got our old 1950 Shoebox ford running after about 10 years, put new plugs, and everything, but when we take it for a spin it gets hot after a while.
We didn't flush the radiator, we're going to do that tomorrow. Do you have any other suggestions as to what we should do to elevate this problem?

Thanks in advanced

Check the timing. The vac diaphragm on the distributor could be cracked, worn out,
and not advancing the timing, which could lead to running hot. New ones are available. Timing should be set on the 'dot' . You mentioned it gets hot.
Do you know the temperature?
