I just put a new motor in my '50 Convertible. Merc crank and max 1 cam are the only thing not stock. The only thing we have re used from the old motor are the carb and distributor. When holding a steady speed, the engine has a slight miss that happens every 5 seconds or so. It goes away if you accellerate. The distributor has been gone thru and the carb twice.

The only other thing we noticed is the left exhaust manifold is much more restrictive than the right.

The old motor had the same miss.

Any help would be appreciated.

Take a good look at the exhaust ports, (block and old iron headers, ports) note color of the burn, if one port is different in color, could give hint where the miss is, or at least the area to look, ??? plug wires, read the plugs color, too, For a miss that comes and goes, hasta to be something that moves, like the roto in the dist. dose it "waddel" around in the case ?? fun things to look for ..??....OLD....BILL

I would change one of these .beg borrow .

The distributor is one of the common items you have identified. Theres a number of options to fixing the problem. Be glad to help ya out call the shop and ask for Bubba and tell them its a distributor problem...

Before you start guessing about what MIGHT be the problem. Do a compression test to eliminate the engine.
