1949 overdrive trans. question.

I want to replace my 3 speed manual trans. in my '49 SW with an overdrive trans. If I find a '49 OV trans is it just a bolt on without any modification to the driveshaft or anything else? Will a '50 or '51 OV work just as well?

The '51 transmissions have the mount in a different location. Also, if your '49 has an X-frame, you will either need to find a '49 SW or conv. overdrive setup or modify to suit. Good Luck, Bob L

Where are you located? I have a complete setup, all rebuilt and new. Every wire, switch, cable, everything for the conversion. Sold my '49 before i put it all in. e-mail me if interested.

You need to turn the transmission mount around to bolt the overdrive in, everything else is the same. You need one of the convertible / station wagon specific solinoids to clear your frame.

I am in Arlington VA. I am interested depending on cost.
