1949 Ford Cig. Lighter

I am looking for a chrome knobbed 1949 Ford Cigarette Lighter and element to live in the dash of my 1949 Mercury.

Anyone know if one of those can work off of my car, which is now a 12 volt system? Or would it require a voltage reducer? Oh, and if ya have one for sale please let me know and send a pict.

When we converted our '51 F-1 to 12 volts I put a 12 volt cigar lighter housing and element in, the original knob screwed into the 12 volt element, in the dash everything looks like the original 6 volt and I can use the element to charge my cell phone and/or use a GPS, etc.
 
Buy a generic cigarette lighter/element from Walmart and install the stock knob and you are good to go. Check e-Bay for a knob if you don't have one. There's some round chrome knobs on there with a set screw that you can use.
 
I have a new old stock 49 ford lighter with knob ,no socket which I think is standard. will sell for $25 plus ship cost

I have some NOS Genuine Ford complete chrome cigarette lighters, in which I do not know what they fit. If you can send a photo of what you want, I will check them out.

'49 Ford knobs are different than '49 Mercury, why not search for a '49 Mercury lighter? ..B.

I checked my lighters and I do not have the one that you need. I do, however, have a couple NOS Genuine Ford elements. Sorry, I thought that I did have it.

So-cal makes a knob that looks almost identical to the 49 merc knobs...u could buy that...they may even make it in a lighter
