1949 Ford 4 speed to flathead question

This might be a dumb question, will a 1949 Ford 4-speed bolt up to a 59AB flathead? Would it fit in my 1937 Ford? I saw that someone has a 49 Ford 4-speed for sale near me. With the shifter on top it looks like it's from a truck. In the picture it seems a lot like the 1939 3-speed I have in my car now. I tried to find more info on here and the internet without success. I appreciate any help or info. Thank you.

The only '49 Ford 4 speed transmissions that I am aware of were used in the heavy duty trucks and they had an extra low low gear sometime called a granny gear. 4th gear was still a 1 to 1 ratio. It would mate up to a 59 engine but would give you no advantage over the standard 3 speed other than having a super low speed gear for pulling.

Yes it will bolt up. It's a lot bigger than the 3 spd in your 37 car. I doubt you want it.

It has all spur gears and needs double clutching to shift. Nobody wants them and everybody seems to have one laying around. Look for the truck LD 3 spd up thru 50 - its the same size as the 39 and has synchro'd gears.

Thank you for the info. I guess I'll stick with what I have. Saved me from purchasing something I really don't need. Thanks again.

The heavy three is very tough, but has very wide ratios. First gear is almost a full revolution lower than the stock Ford three speed, 3.71 vs 2.82.
