1949 flathead v8

Can anyone tell me if I need to use lock washers on the bolts to connect the transmission bell housing to the clutch housing? I have checked all of the online sources I could find and the VanPelt illustrations without getting the information I need.

I believe ford used them originaly, and I have always used them.

The four bolt trans. uses 7/16'" lock washers and the eight bolt uses 3/8" lock washers, as per parts illustration.

I used them also as they were there originally.
