Guy's, Not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, but I need a title and vin plate for a 1949 F2. The owners have passed away and I can't get a title. It's been sitting in a shed for 20 years! Any ideas? If this is the wrong place to post this (I am sorry an you can delite it). If not where should I post this? Thanks for your help.

You can post your request here on the barn in the swap section and wanted. Also go on the H.A.M.B. and join (its very similar to the barn and free). I see folks looking for titles constantly and Im guessing you need it for registration? In Vermont they are not required after 15years old. Ken

Every state I've lived in has it's own process for this. I recommend you go to your motor vehicle dept and ask what procedure you need to follow.

The only number that law enforcement will check is the one on the frame rail. Most are lightly stamped on the passenger side top of the frame - somewhere around the motormount brace. Clean it good or scrub with fine steel wool and shine a good light at an angle to make the numbers apppear. It will start with a hollow star and ends with a star. In between the stars it will look like * 98RC 123456 *

Like said every state has their own rules but if the truck is original you sould be able to find the original vin. I'd highly recomend trying to regester it to the original vin. FWIW here in NM it's considered a felony to buy a title and vin and try to use it to title a vehical with it. I know guys do it but if your caught here doing it you can face jail time and they will take and destroy the vehical, not worth it IMHO. Lucky for us as long as the vehical vin is clean (no stolen reports or liens) and it's not currently in the system it's not hard to get a proper title.

A friend of mine in Maryland used a title service in NY state that advertises in some of the magazines, cost around a $100.00 I think. Check it out.
