1949 Barn fresh F-1

Hey Folks,

I am new to this forum. I have a 49 F-1 that was purchased by my Great Great Uncle new. It has never left the family. I got it from my cousin when he passed away about ten years ago. My uncle had the original Flat Head v-8 gone through by a very good mechanic in the early eighties and it looks very appropriate. He ran the truck intermittently on summer vacations for about ten years afterward. He lived in Ohio, and owned the family camp in Michigan, where he spent the summers. The truck sat in the barn for about twenty years when he got sick. When I got it, I drained the gas, cleaned the carb, changed some brake lines, and put a new battery in it. The truck started right up and ran beautifully. I have since had the seat reupholstered and put oak in the bed of the truck.

The truck body has never been touched. The interior looks almost new, with a nice luster to the dash paint. There is no rust inside. The outside has the normal F-1 rust spots on the front fenders. The doors close with a click and the handle stand true, with no drooping. The running boards have some rust, but repairable...not worth replacing. The rear fenders have dents, but not really any rust.

So bottom line, what is this thing going to be worth? The only use it gets at this point is parades and I am interested in putting my attention to another project truck for my son. Thanks for any guidance you can give. Marv

Why not use that truck for your father/son project? Sounds like a project that should be kept in the family.

Hey TJ, thanks for the quick reply. Yes, that is why I have kept it. However, my son seems more interested in the 68 Chevy that I have also had for years. It kind of hurts thinking about selling this truck, but I have a guy who is asking and I guess for the right money I would consider it. The only problem is that I don't really know what the right money is. I absolutely love going back home, taking it out of the barn, and driving it around town. It certainly brings back old memories. And the truck rides and runs great!

I will get some pics when I can. The truck is five hours away and I can't find my 49 Ford file on my computer at the moment.

You will regret it.....Ask some of the guys on here about the vehicles they wish they didn't sell and once its gone you can't get it back. But if you google NADA 49 FORD TRUCK it will give you a low to high price just to give you an idea.

Check the auction site and some other places. If you want to sell it? Price it that way. Or you never will.

never, ever sell this truck out of the family, you will regret it. ask some relatives about buying the truck from you before you even think about selling it

Don't sell it. Too much family history there. You will regret it. A truck that nice won't come along again. To me, you can't put a price on the history and memories that go with that truck. It would be a crying shame if you sold it and it got butchered into a hotrod. I'm for keeping it.

If you don't think you would enjoy the truck much sell it. Letting it sit will not be good on it. If you have it inside good. But one day someone is going to say we need more room to put stuff. An the truck will get parked outside. And we just hope no one puts a tarp on thinking it will help it. I see a lot more trucks being rebuilt now more than I ever have. Maybe you can make some good money off the truck. When it comes to old pickups. Who cares who rebuilds them. A restorer or a hot rodder will help these old forgotten pickups. Old pickups are all over the place. Just about every old far and ranch around here has a few on them. And the local scrap yard gets them when the old folks die off and the kids clean the place up to sell. Just decide how much it means to you and go off that.

welcome to the 'Barn....would love to see some pics when you can....good luck with your father/son project, building your own memories.....Mike

It is your turn to be the steward of the F-1, not the seller. It has been in the family since 1949 and should remain there as long as possible. I do not get the impression that you need to sell it, so don't. Avoid the temptation. One day you, your son, or grandchildren till come to appreciate the heirloom. Keep it.

I made it up North last week and took the old truck out of the barn. I will try to attach some pics. I also took a video clip to show the running condition. I will try to attach that next.

Nice looking truck .It seems to me that the family history of the truck would mean more to me than the money you could get out it .It's worth only what someone is willing to pay for it .....jmo:)

If you're determined to sell it, check out prices on ebay for similar condition trucks.

Your's appears to be solid and would be a good project, but has the usual areas needing repair. Ballpark in my area is a wide range of approx $1500 to 3500. There actually are a lot of these trucks around so they're not outrageously valuable.
