1948 temperature gauge calibration

I converted our 48 to 12 volts with the usual resistors but I have always had a problem with the temp gauge pegged on hot when the infrared gun shows engine temp at 165-170 degrees. Any thoughts on how to calibrate the gauge to read accurately??? Are there sending units with different resistance to compensate??? Ken

Seems like a refresher course in algebra and a sharpie on the gauge is the best answer!!! Engine is running at 160 and gauge is 3/4 into the hot range. Better that way than the other. Thanks for your reply and guidance. Ken

Are you using an original King Seeley sending unit or a modern rheostatic type? When we perform a 12 volt conversion, we provide a solid state voltage regulator to operate the gauge. The input voltage differs based on which sending unit route you are going.
