I need some help to identify what the engine color signifies in our 1948 M47 pickup. Clearly the heads are marked 8BA and Made in Canada but what does the color signify - Mercury?, Ford?, Year?, 239?,255? etc.

I restored a Nov 47 Dated M47 [48] and the eng and trans were light gray. the eng was a C7 [47 style/59ab] . It is now in N Mexico. My 114 Mercury[48] is also light gray eng color. Newc
