Hi. I am one step away from getting my Grandfather's 48 Merc truck (M47, 1/2 ton) certified, and I need one part. It is the "hood locator dowel" (I'm not really sure how to describe it). It sits midway above the grill, and when the hood closes, the dowel, or pin, goes up through a hole in the hood and is engaged by the hood latch. If anyone has one, please let me know. I really only need the dowel itself as it is a threaded "bolt" with probably a mushroom type head on it...it threads into the existing part on the body. Poor description, I know.
Thanks for your help.

Hi: Believe the piece you are looking for looks like a mushrom with a spring around it. Not much help but Ford and Merc PU's used the same piece. Checked my parts and everyone is either bent or threads are striped.

Thanks Stewart...that is exactly the piece I need, spring and all. I forgot to mention the spring. I found one on ebay but the fellow is selling the whole front metal part and I only need the dowel and spring...tried to contact him to ask him to remove that part that I need and shipping would be less, but he doesn't take questions from buyers...weird?
Thanks for your help, and thanks for checking your stock.

I have what you need.

Just FYI... I checked the latest parts catalog that I have (Jan 1954) and the spring and washer is the same on 48-54 models. The dowel, however, is different in length. 48-50 dowl is 5", while 51-52 is 3.66".

PanelMan, I won't get all gushy, but you're my hero. :)
How much do you want for that part and how do you want to be paid? Please let me know and we can get the ball rolling.
Thanks very much.

Still soaking the assembly. Tried to remove yesterday and it wouldn't budge. I'll give it a few more days before getting the heat torch out.
