1948 Dyna-matic Engine Fan

My 1948 Ford Convertible has a "dyna-matic" engine fan. I have found absolutely nothing about it in the maintenance manual and would be interested in any information anybody has to share on them. Ford had to have published some sort of manual for it, but I've yet to see one. According to the book "Ford 1946 1947 1948, Closing The Years of Tradition," the fan is "permanently lubricated" but they probably didn't consider one being around in 75 years. I'm preparing to start the engine for the first time in 20+ years and would like some insight from those familiar with them as to what to expect/look out for/do before starting for the fan. I have the fan removed and it appears there is only a spring clip holding the guts in the fan but being able to remove and being wise to remove are often NOT the same thing.

I've never owned one, but have seen them; survivors are rare. The Ford parts "Green Bible" lists a "Thermostatic Control Fan" in the Accessories section. It lists a "Thermostat assy (fan control)" part #59A 8654. You might have more success posting your question on the Early Ford V8 Club of America website:
