1948 crown wheel in 1936 rear?

I'm asking for a friend of mine, he has a good 3.78 crown wheel out of a 1948 rear and wants to put it in his 4.11 1936 rear.

Has anyone done this?

things seem to measure up and he thinks that the narrower bearing will go on the crown wheel side , swapping out the 1948 wider bearing.

I've not done it so can't help him out , but said I was ask.

Anyone done this at all? Has anyone tried to do it?

thanks for your help.

The ring and pinion have to be maintained as a set. The older cars had a 10-spline pinion shaft and the later cars from around 38 on up had the 6-spline pinion. The old drive shafts have a 10-spline rear fitting in them and it would be a job to cut that out and put in a 6-spline fitting. They made 6 to 10-spline adapters but they were primarily for the solid shaft type drive shafts but they are modified a lot to use for various 6-spline alterations.
