how to add oil to the rear end of a 1948 ford Columbia Rear End, also there is one nut located at the very bottom of the Columbia which is attached to the main gear box leaking very little. Can I remove that nut and add gasket sealer to it or can I add a "o" ring to the nut. which is better ?

To achieve the proper level in a Columbia equipped rear, use the plug on the Columbia housing. NOT the Ford center section!
Fill until the fluid leaks out of that very same hole. Allow it to drip for a minute or two before replacing the plug.

The plug on the bottom has an interference fit. An "O" ring won't help. I'd suggest wrapping the plug in Teflon tape.
