Is there a difference between 59a and 59ab. My heads r cast with 59ab. And should the pistons be domed or flat from the factory. Thanks for any help.

As I understand it, the '46-'48 block is 59 (cast into the bellhousing, some also had an 'L' or other letters). The heads are 59AB, meaning they will fit either side. '37-'41 heads were different from side to side, so they had different part numbers. The set I have has 81A-6049-A cast into the right head, and 81A-6050-A on the left head. The change in valve angles meant a change in heads.
