There is a serial number stamped on the top of the left side frame rail. Its stamped three times = once in the front, once under the door area and once on the "kicked up" area over the rear axle. The only one you can get to - without removing the body - is the front one. Usually a bit hard to find. Takes a lot of cleaning. Six digits, I believe, preceded and followed by a star. Hope this helps.

Mine,as with others,is on top of the frame,on the drivers side, next to the rivets, holding the x-member,to the frame rail.I started with toothbrush style fine wire brushes,to remove rust, because the stamped numbers are not deep, and might be worn away with sandpaper or some other abrasive.I finally saw one of the stamped stars, located at both ends of the number.Carefull not to wear them away, some are almost unreadable, due to being too easy with the hammer when they were stamped.

As the above posts say: may take a good cleaning to reveal it. Here is mine on the drivers side rail at the front crossmember. Notice how the rail has been scrubbed down to bare metal. 46 Ford

After cleaning the frame rail, wetting the area or rubbing it with chalk may help raise the number. For 1947, it should be in the following range: 799A-1,412,708 to 799A-2,071,117.
