1947 ford side molding

The side molding on my 47 Ford coupe has a different side profile /contour than other trim I have seen. The front of the hood trim also has two horizontale lines.Did Henry have two types of trim in 47 ?

Early '47's, up until about April '47, were still the '46 model. The body molding was different than the '47's after that and the '48's. The '46-early '47 had the molding with the extra coutour lines in it whereas the later '47-'48's had the smooth molding. So, you may have some '46 or early '47 molding on your otherwise '47.

There also was another variation on the contour of the mldg for early '47. The first version when looked at from the end will have the lower section wider "fuller' at the bottom. The final version when looked at from the end has the wider "fuller" part going down the center of the mldg.

The reason for the change was due to so many of the early 47 style being damaged during installation at the factory so they went to a new, stronger contour design for the remainder of 47 and all of 48. The repops are all made this way. I've seen several cars with a mixture of moldings at shows over the years. These were obviously installed by those who were none the wiser.

Thanks for the response. I assume the hood piece on the earlier version had two horizontal grooves [approx. 5 inches long] at the front .

My NZ assembled 48 has the flatter trim with the 2 grooves on the front end, on the hood and the more rounded later type on the remainder of the car.
