hi, this is my first post here.you guys are great. ive put a 39 trans in my 46 bussiness coupe and i love it but i hade to take out the heater because it hits the shift tower.is there another heater that i could use from an earlier ford that i might get to fit with out cutting my firewall? i dont mind modifing the heater to fit.thanks.jake.

You Could try the '47/'48 Ford, factory fresh air heater. These are much flatter than the standard hot water heater and mount on the passengers side of the firewall. See the picture of the main unit below.

thanks for the idea.i really dont want to cut any holes in my firewall.i have a nos southwind heater with all the parts for a v8 ford inc the template used on the firewall but it requires cotting a big hole in the firewall.i like to try to keep any mods reversable.i got an extra front floorpan and cut the hole for the 39 trans shifter and saved the original that was in perfect shape.i put a columbia in at the same time as i put in the 39 trans.its so much more fun with the floor shift.i was hopeing to use a hot water heater that was a bit smaller i would be ok with modifing the tubes or whatever to get it to work.is an earlier car heater case smaller?

i like the idea of moving the heater to the right.ill see if i can modify the tubes to fit in original holes and move the case over may be a couple days till i get back to it were in the middle of a blizzard here in southern wisconsin.thanks to every one who responded.i couldnt find the heater on e bay, maybe i did it wrong.
