1946 front door weatherstrip placement

SHORTDOOR

I am installing the door weatherstrips. A tense day today because I had to remove the doors to get the ones at the hinge glued in. Doors are back on the car, no chips or dings on the cowl trim. I have searched the catalogs and have the correct orientation of the above door and back of door strips. I am asking for photos of the corners of the top of door and bottom of door for that strip. Also need a photo for the body one where it meets the hinge area. Thank you in advance.

I rephased by search to "door seal" and found 12 pages of information. Probably enough information to get me where I have to be. Sounds like if it functions and looks good, it is good.

Pics of the hinge area seal install.

Some photos of my ‘46 Mercury attached. It was a pretty nice original car to start with, so all the original clips were reused. I made a mistake and put the weatherstripping on after installing the doors, and I didn’t want to remove them like you did to install the pieces at the hinge area. I couldn’t figure out how to install them without making a mess with contact cement, so I omitted them.

Yeah, me too. Bought the door hinge rubber for my '40, but I'm afraid to tackle the job with doors in place. Working with that nasty adhesive in that tight couple inches scares me. Also need to remove original adhesive residue. UGH! And I suspect getting hinge pins out on this old survivor would be near impossible without damaging the re-paint.

So the rubber is still on-the-shelf. Car drives just fine without it.

Bruce, could I get this dimension from you? I am having a go around with the manufacturer that there is a difference between the short door and the longer door length of the strip.

Shortdoor,
My sedan-coupe inner door looks to be about 1-3/4” in width at the seal, vs yours looks about 2”.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
