1946 Ford pick up serial number question

The title's serial number of our model 69A-80A pick up is 99C 686738. On the firewall is stamped 26C 67675. I have not found the truck's serial number stamped on the frame rail yet. I have been looking by the steering box on top of the rail. Are 99C or 26C model numbers? Why doesn't my title's serial number match the number stamped on the firewall?

Just looked at my 47 serial number, it is closer to the crossmember than the steering box. Hope you find it.

The serial number should be 699C ******* but in '46 the "6" was usually omitted, thus the 99C ******* is your serial number. Your title is correct.

I can't say for '46 but in '48 Ford was stamping build codes in the firewall. 26C would be 26 March assembly date and 67675 were factory assigned numbers.

Also by '48 most of the frame numbers were stamped on the right (passenger) frame rail near the motor mount x-member.

Thank you for the most welcomed answers.:) I finally found the truck's serial number stamped on the top of the left hand frame rail, only 6 inches from the firewall. It matches my title's serial number! All of the number information really helped me sort this out.;)

yeah. I Just found mine on my 47 truck last week. It was under the battery box between the croosmember and the firewall. It started with *799............ It is supposedly stamped in 3 places. Around the crossmember. Under the cab and back towards the rear end on the drivers side frame rail.

I haven't start my build yet since I didnt get a title with mine.

Today is March 12, 2011 and it is my wife's 65th birthday. I was showing the kids what I have been doing to the '46 Ford Pick up and what the numbers meant that were stamped on the firewall. Guess what? It was the trucks's 65th birthday today too. The 46 pick up has a special meaning to both of us now. We have owned the truck for over 30 years and we never thought to check the numbers on the firewall to see what its birthday was. Happy 65th Birthday to both our truck and to my wife! (not necessarily in that order.):)
