1946 ford outside windshield stainless trim

getting ready to put the windshields in my coupe and would like to know if the outside trim has to go in before or after install. also any tricks to do this?
thanks,
rustrunner

As I recall, when I replaced the windshield in a '46 TuDor Sedan I had in the '80's, I assembled the windshield glass, rubber and stainless trim as a unit, and installed it as such. Its best to have at least one helper inside the car and one outside. I used liquid dish soap and some twine to help with the installation. I think I installed the center section stainless after the windshield was in place, and secured it with the corresponding interior center section and interior garnish molding.

The attached instructions may also help. Dan

Please keep us posted on the progress and any issues, tips, pics, etc. Did you replace the glass, and if so, where did you find them? Thanks!!

The windshield glass is "flat", you can have any local auto glass shop cut them for you. If you have the original glass, its easy for them to copy.

as vic said. local glass shop. I cracked the drivers side putting it in so now I'm waiting for another one. glass shop had to order the glass as mine are tinted and he had to order some more glass.

Follow the Dennis Carpenter instructions provided by Drbrown. That is what I did when I installed the glass in my '46. Use plenty of liquid soap on the rubber. The Stainless Steel trim goes on last.
