I have the chance to buy a '45 Ford 1 1/2 ton truck that was originally a fire truck. It has less than 5000 miles and has been shedded it's entire life. It has a few minor issues but is a complete running cab and chassis.
I don't have a clue what it might be worth. I know there's not much demand for the bigger trucks, but it's rare to find something this old in such good shape.
Any ideas on value?

there is one like you have described for sale for $3500 a few more miles but also used to be a firetruck, running driving 48 F6 in Ga for $2500, 48 Cabover-with lots of new stuff but not running for $3500. I guess it is worth what some one is willing to pay, if it is running, driving, good cab, useable tires, etc up to $5000

A lot of fire trucks have very low road miles, but have high engine hrs from running a pump for hrs on end.

For you the value depends on what you want to do with the truck. To make it roadworthy and usable you'll need a bed of some sort and the following services: brake and master cylinder, electrical, cooling service and possibly tires which will require a special mounting technique for the locking ring rims that are on the truck. I'm assuming the engine, 4 speed transmission and differential will need minor service (plugs, points, lube). All of this comes at a cost which you should attempt to itemize. As far as vehicle operation the 4 speed trans will necessitate double clutching, top speed with the 4.86 gears in the back will be 55 MPH and at that you'll be pushing the engine's red line. The large trucks are easy to restore and will give you satisfaction when done, but they aren't as operationally friendly as a 1/2 ton truck or a car. Sight unseen I would say that $3000.00-6,000.00 would be reasonable based on your description. Good luck with your decision.
