1942 flathead v8

Hi everyone,
I need some expert help. I have a V8 engine from a 1942 Ford. The engine is perfect and ran great. The reason I pulled it was because it had a slight leak internally.. The oil used to be a bit milky. I now have a 1948 engine in my 41 Ford Coupe.

Somebody wants to buy the engine and have it welded. What is this engine worth if anything. It ran like a top and was as quiet as a church mouse. What would be a fair price if it did have a money value. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

joe,
If you sell that motor it has to be an as is where is sale. That leak could be nothing more than a messed up head gasket or a mortal situation in the wings.
Complete with all the needed accessories start at $1200 or a long block start at
$750. In my humble opinion.
FYI at one time I ran a Flathead in my '41 1/2 ton that was distressed ,as
is your '42. I knew it was shaky but I dumped some BARRS LEAK in the radiator and
used that motor for 3 years, including a trip at speed to the V8 Grand National in
Dearborn. The buyer and seller beware.

This block needs to be repaired, I have never given more than $200 for a complete flathead v8 that needed to be rebuilt. Jmo.

Seth's right. I would only give a few hundred for it. Once things get taken apart. You allways find other things wrong. Or you want to do something else.

I'm wondering, does that engine have the core plugs in the pan rail? 1942 would have been a bit late for that but thought to mention it...

Gentlemen,
To clarify....the prices I quoted were asking prices if/when Joe goes to
sell his leaker. He can always deal down. The 3 year motor I ran in my 1/2 ton cost
me two Stromberg 97 cores.
