1941 Serial number question

My serial number starts with 18-, but the remaining numbers are larger (1/4"). It's a pickup and I checked the number over the rear axle and it's also larger, but here isn't any 18-. Both numbers begin and end with a star. Is this correct?

Might take a look at VanPelts site on serial numbers. There is a lot of vernation, but normally only the number in the steering box area has the prefix.

That is correct. The numbers stamped below the body did not get the "18" prefix - only the actual serial number.

ID numbers for 1/2-ton and larger commercials/trucks can be more difficult to find information about since they are sometimes different than the passenger cars were. The 18- prefix was common though for commercials that had the light duty 3-speed transmission and 221 cid engine. I wished there was more info out there for the pickups & trucks ID but so far were are just finding out a little info at a time for them.

1941 was a change over year for passenger cars but fortunately the 1/2 ton commercial pickup was very similar to the 1940 passenger & commercial frames with only a few changes. The big change for pickups was in 1942.
