Can any one tell me what is the best kind of salvage vehicle to get the rear parallel springs from? I have priced the new kits that are available and they along with shipping are too much for me. Any help will be appriciated. Thanks, almauldin@msn.com

Depending on where you live, there might be a spring repair shop where you can have a set made up to your specs. and installed

Here ya go:

The enclosed pictures are of the FRONT spring hardware and SPRINGS from a '49-54 CHEVY pick-up. They're seen here adapted to (bolted to) a '40 FORD frame...ingenious! DD

I think that rather than focusing on original wheelbase length, I'd use this opportunity to make sure the "new" axle placement centers the wheels/tires in the fender openings, while also making sure the new axle placement is square to a "square" chassis, AND to the front axle. DD
